  • I combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results.

I bring a background grounded in classroom instruction and school guidance counseling, combined with lived experience supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals. My teaching career included designing age-appropriate lessons, managing diverse classroom dynamics, and creating safe, structured learning environments that prioritized emotional safety and academic growth. As a school guidance counselor, I conducted individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, college and career planning, and collaborated with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support students’ social-emotional development and academic success.

Working in schools required strong skills in assessment, individualized planning, behavior intervention, and documentation, along with an emphasis on confidentiality and ethical practice. I facilitated social skills groups, grief and loss support, and coping-skills workshops tailored to adolescents. I also provided referrals to community mental health resources and coordinated care for students with complex needs, including those experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, or family conflict.

My lived experience with the LGBTQIA+ community informs my approach with empathy, cultural humility, and an understanding of the unique stressors this population faces—such as identity development, minority stress, family rejection, bullying, and challenges accessing affirming care. I have supported LGBTQIA+ youth and adults through identity exploration, coming-out processes, relationship and family dynamics, and navigating systems (schools, health care, and legal settings) that may be unaffirming or hostile.

Practically, this experience translates into clinical and educational strategies that are trauma-informed and client-centered: validating identities, using chosen names and pronouns, addressing safety and risk (including self-harm and suicidal ideation), developing coping and resilience skills, and assisting with social supports and community connection. I prioritize creating affirming spaces where clients can explore identity without judgment, build self-advocacy skills, and access resources—whether that means coordinating with school staff for accommodations (such as name/pronoun policies, restroom access, or anti-bullying plans) or linking adults with affirming medical and mental health providers.

In summary, my combined teaching and guidance counseling background equips me with skills in assessment, crisis response, developmental supports, and systems navigation; my lived experience with LGBTQIA+ individuals ensures culturally responsive, affirming care tailored to the particular needs of queer and trans clients across developmental stages.
